The 2026 Gifting Trends Report: What Americans Are Wishing For

We analyzed over 500,000 wishlist items added by US consumers in the past year. The results reveal surprising shifts in gifting preferences — from experience-based gifts to hyper-personalized products.

Every year, we analyze the wishlist data from our US user base to understand how gifting preferences are shifting. This year's report covers over 500,000 wishlist items added between September 2025 and August 2026 — our largest dataset yet.

The headline finding: experience-adjacent products are surging. Items like home spa kits, cooking class vouchers, and premium hobby supplies have grown 41% year-over-year on American wishlists. US consumers are increasingly wishing for things that create moments, not just objects.

Personalization is the second major trend. Products with customization options — engraved jewelry, monogrammed accessories, made-to-order items — are being wishlisted at twice the rate of their non-personalized equivalents. Shoppers want gifts that feel made for them specifically.

Sustainability is also a growing factor. Items from brands with visible sustainability credentials appear on wishlists 28% more often than comparable items from brands without them. American consumers are increasingly using their wishlists to signal values, not just preferences.

For Shopify merchants, these trends point to a clear opportunity: lean into personalization options, highlight your sustainability story, and consider bundling products into experience-oriented gift sets. The data shows that's exactly what American gift-givers are looking for.
